Ray - Coaching for Test Anxiety
I
am looking into coaching services for my brother-in-law. Here is his
situation: He is what I believe to be learning disabled. He works as a
carpenter hand and has for the past two years been trying to pass the
state licensing exam for contractors license. It is an open book exam.
He has complained that he gets anxious and rushes towards the end of the
exam. He also complains of having trouble reading. He is forty years
old. On the one hand I would tell him to get in touch with the Mass.
Rehab Commission but he needs directed help in a hurry to pass this
exam. Possibly coaching to deal with test anxiety and to see if there is
anything that can be done regarding his reading difficulties. How might
you help us with this goal?
Dear
Ray
Thanks
for your message. It sounds like you want to do all you can so that your
brother in law passes. And the pressure is on. I think the scenario you
present has the working of a good coaching application because it has to
do with assessing what the real problem may be - aptitude, attitude,
anxiety or a combination of all of these factors.
What
we would do is assess your brother in law - by talking to him and doing
some basic tests. Then we would be in a position to make a plan - which
your brother in law would be in charge of seeing through. Depending upon
his needs we would support him ourselves, or help find the right
supports that would make him successful in fulfilling his goals.
If
you like, we can talk a bit on the phone to see if scheduling a
consultation makes sense for you and/or your brother in law. Thanks for
dropping this note!
